8、als alike.While Rutgers University bears no ownership of the corridor,Easton Avenue operates primarily as a nightlife location for the Rutgers student body with little activity during the day.The inventory and analysis shows a need for better organized zoning and building uses.The poor pedestrian ci

11、ransition from contemporary urban architecture a historic rural setting near the existing park.A Rutgers University academic and residential center was centrally positioned to adhere to the pedestrian corridors of Stone Street and Mine Street.In creating a University presence along Easton Avenue,we
12、hoped to establish a higher level of respect and ownership from the Rutgers student body.In turn,this change in mentality would create the perception of a safer atmosphere for students and permanent residents alike.The feedback we received from Rutgers and New Brunswick officials was that although o
13、ur ideas were well thought out;they were unrealistic.In order to answer these concerns we felt it would be best to separate the class into collaborative teams consisting of landscape architecture and public policy students.Each group worked on one of the five segments of Easton Avenue and developed
14、their own design intent;while each individual member simultaneously created their own long and/or short term designs.The final product resulted in excitement from Rutgers and New Brunswick officials with an emphasis on the proposed L.E.D.Lightscape.The final design maintained the original intent of
15、creating a family-friendly atmosphere on Easton Avenue.It also met the goals of attracting new users and meeting cost constraints which would allow the array to be installed within a six year time frame.The lightscape spans from New Brunswick Train Station(or Wall Street)to Hamilton Street.The light
16、s bring the“ceiling”down to historic heights between Wall Street and Somerset Street in response to the recently constructed high-rises.Alternatively,the overhead array provides a gateway and additionally serves to attract the thousands of daily commuters who pass through New Brunswick Station out o
17、f their seats and onto the streets.Moving down Easton Avenue the L.E.D.array utilizes the existing utility poles between Somerset Street and Hamilton Street.The current state of the utility lines produces a vision of clutter and neglect.Proposing to re-use the existing utility poles will decrease in
18、stallation costs and increase the aesthetic value of the high-wires.The lights border the intersection at Giovanellis between Somerset Street and Condict Street.Possible measures to minimize the recent string of violent crimes occurring at this intersection have been a hot topic in local news outlet

20、WN,NEW JERSEY 08057 l 609.744.7793.l PCLUBINGMAIL.COMthe crime rates of residential areas.Thus,the application of better lighting in this location is essential for the future safety of local residents.While lowering crime rates,the vertical orientation of the array along Giovanellis allows it to bec
21、ome a mural for those who frequent the biergarten at Stuff Yer Face.The utility lines on Easton progressing toward Hamilton jut across the road and the array becomes an awe inspiring vortex.This vortex receives and sends visitors with the anticipation of experiencing the richness of activities Easto
22、n Avenue has to offer.The gateway resulting from the L.E.D.Lightscape will provide the mesh that unites New Brunswicks residents and commuters with events like First Friday;already hosted in Chicago,Philadelphia and San Antonio.These First Friday events will highlight New Brunswicks outstanding dini
